“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” — Acts 1:8 (NIV)
Reflection:
Have you ever felt utterly inadequate?
Perhaps you faced a challenge too big for your skills, a temptation too strong for your willpower, or a wound too deep for your own healing. In those moments, we often try harder. We clench our fists, summon our determination, and whisper, “I can do this on my own.”
But the Christian life was never meant to be lived on autopilot or raw human effort.
Before He ascended to heaven, Jesus gave His disciples a strange command: Wait. Don’t start the mission yet. Don’t preach. Don’t write the book. Just wait. Why? Because they weren’t ready. They had three years of teaching, miracles, and memories—but without the Holy Spirit, they had no power.
Then Pentecost came. A rushing wind. Tongues of fire. Ordinary, frightened fishermen became bold preachers. Peter, who had denied Jesus to a servant girl, now stood up before thousands and proclaimed the Gospel.
That same power is not just a story from the book of Acts. It is a present reality for every believer today.
The Holy Spirit is not a vague force or a mystical feeling. He is a Person—the third Person of the Trinity—sent to live inside you. He is your Comforter when you grieve, your Counselor when you are confused, your Convincer when you wander into sin, and your Empowerer when you feel weak.
Do you struggle to love an unlovable person? That is a work of the Spirit producing agape love (Galatians 5:22).
Do you need courage to share your faith? The Spirit gives you the words (Luke 12:12).
Do you feel spiritually dry? The Spirit is the living water (John 7:38-39).
Here is the beautiful truth: You don’t have to manufacture power. You only have to surrender to the One who is power. Stop striving. Stop pretending you have it all together. Fall to your knees and say, “Holy Spirit, I cannot do this without You.”
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, I confess that I have often tried to live the Christian life in my own strength—and I have failed. I need You. Not just Your blessings, not just Your gifts, but You. Fill me afresh today. Break my pride. Ignite my heart. Give me power to be a witness, to resist sin, and to love like Jesus. I yield control to You. Amen.
